THE FACT
The risk of fire in agricultural equipment is a reality in today’s farming environment. When a fire starts in harvesting equipment, the risk is not only to the machine itself (which can be a significant investment alone), but also to the life of the operator, the crop being harvested, livestock or equipment in adjoining paddocks.
THE CHALLENGE
Insurance for agricultural equipment can be expensive, and in some cases, it is difficult to obtain insurance for this equipment unless appropriate mitigating measures are undertaken. Fire suppression systems are one of the best methods to provide a level of protection that insurance companies can quantify and consider in their premium assessments.
THE SOLUTION
JSG Industrial Systems supply the Muster fire suppression system through O’Connors, Australia’s largest Case IH dealership. The Muster system automatically monitors high risk areas of agricultural equipment (determined through a risk assessment process) for the outbreak of fire and delivers an environmentally responsible fluorine free foam solution onto the source of the fire, minimising the damage to the equipment.
Recently in Forbes, NSW, a machine owner approached O’Connors about protecting his machine. O’Connors knowledge of the combines functionality, industry specific knowledge of combine operation and their relationship with the machine owner meant they were able to install the Muster system onto the Combine in the most appropriate location. O’Connors have an engineering department who designed and built a custom bracket specifically for use on Case IH combines.
The Case 7250 Combine Harvester was fitted with a state-of-the-art 110ltr Muster LHD system utilising MusterWire linear heat detection throughout the risk areas for rapid detection and activation of the system, should a fire occur.
THE OUTCOME
With the Muster system protecting his machine, the farmer is enjoying the peace of mind that comes with knowing his investment will provide improved safety outcomes for his equipment and his operators, with the added benefit of a potential reduction of insurance premiums.
